Dry weather and an American icon

 

Well, we have finally settled into a blue sky summer weather pattern. We came through a few bad weeks of torrential rain, high winds, hail and devastating tornadoes. The cleanup is ongoing and the response from people from the USA and the world has been amazing.

Today I'm posting an American icon: the classic red barn. I've done several paintings of classic red barns and will probably do more. I have posted a 6" x 6" version on Daily Paintworks. If you are interested please go to Daily Paintworks and take a look.

A Joyous Time of Year

I love spring. My first peony opened yesterday...a beautiful coral color. My purplse irises are in full bloom and I've been busy planting red geraniums. On May 11, Norman is having its second Open Studio Tour and I've decided to participate this year. I'm a little nervous about the tour because my studio is small and not very impressive. This time of years brings lots of art events: the Arts Festival in OKC (one of the best in the country), the National Juried Watermedia Exhibit (I'm happy to have a painting included in this show), the National Weathe Station International Juried Show here in Norman, the Open Studio Tour, the Mayfaire....etc. My show at the Governor's Gallery came down last week; I have boxes of paintings in my office yet unpacked. I will probably show some of them at the Tour in addition to the smaller paintings. My latest post on DailyPaintworks is "Garden Tools." A Spring Preview

This time of year it is hard not to notice the shy spring colors that are giving us a preview of what is to come. The color in this painting reflects that preview. Although our grass isn't a carpet of green yet, there are little patches of green popping up here and there. Also, the golden jonquils outside my bedroom window are show stoppers...as is this little barn. You can purchase the painting tomorrow on DailyPaintworks.

Shades of Spring

This little 4 x 4 is of a utility shed that was originally red, but the hot sun has faded it to pink over the years. I think a pink utility shed is a great idea and you really notice it as you drive by. Maybe utility shed manufacturers should consider some luscious new colors instead of the usual reds, browns, tans, and greens etc. This painting is for sale on Daily Paintworks.

The Large and the Small

Governor's Gallery Exhibit

My work is currently being shown in the Governor's Gallery in the Oklahoma State Capitol building. It will be there until April 21. This is one of the proudest moments of my art career.
