Homestead

The old homesteads are quickly disappearing, but from time to time, I'll come across an abandoned one. If you are interested in purchasing this piece, please click on Daily Paintworks. A tabletop easel is included with the painting.

Moonlight

Black Friday and Cyber Monday! Wow! Ample opportunities to get the bargains. I'm not much of a shopper--not one to camp out or stand in line. I like to shop the Internet; it's easy and in the comfort of my home :>)  I especially like to shop for art on the Internet; I have my favorite artists and I try and keep up with what new pieces they have to offer. Today, I'm posting a little 4" x 4" painting called "Moonlight." I hope you like it. To purchase, please click on Daily Paintworks.

Today is Thanksgiving and it will bea  quiet one for us. I'm going to pop a turkey in the oven though and have something good to eat later on in the day. I hope all of you who follow this blog have a wonderful day of thanks, and I'm thankful for all of you.

Barn #3

Barn #3, acrylic on cradled gessobord panel, 4" x 4" Sold
Barn #3 is painted in shades of green. Believe it or not, there are green barns out there. The green usually fades to a more coppery (is there such a word?) color over the years. For purchase information, please click on Daily Paintworks. Remember, you can hang the barn on the wall or place it on the tabletop ease that is included with your purchase.

Back to the Barns

Well, the ground is relatively quiet. We had a 4.6 aftershock Sunday night--which I didn't feel eventhough everyone else did! Today, it's a beautiful fall day: crisp air, blue skies and golden leaves that are falling to the ground.

I'm posting another prairie barn today. As I drive through the countryside I take photos of these old barns that pop up on the horizon. They are primarily used to store hay or other materials. Many of them are disappearing and being replaced by metal structures. The painting can be purchased on my Daily Paintwords link.

Rockin' and Rollin'

Wow! The earth shook last night in Oklahoma. We were about 30 miles from the epicenter of a 5.6 earthquake. I know this doesn't sound bad compared to the strong earthquakes that hit other parts of the world, but for us it was the strongest quake to ever hit the state, and it was a very scary feeling.  We didn't have any damage other than a few items that toppled over in the house. This is the third quake that has rattled our area this year.

Here's a new small painting of a vintage hangar that I drive by when I go to the Y. I love the look of the old hangar. It probably dates back to WWII. It's available for sale on my Daily Paintworks site.

I'm Back

It has been awhile since I've added any paintings to this blog. I've been working on larger paintings for some shows I have coming up; therefore, I put aside my smaller paintings. I am posting a new smaller painting today that is destined for a holiday gift shop, and I intend to produce more for my blog and for Paintworks.

Morning Glory

I've been preparing painting boards and other housekeeping stuff in the studio, so I haven't a new painting to post. But, I do want to post my morning glory arbor, which has finally began to bloom. Its late because of the horrible drought and hot weather we have suffered through this summer. I was so happy when it started blooming. It's right outside our bedroom window and it is a glorious sight to wake up to in the monring and enjoy throughout the morning.

A Friendly Face

A Friendly Face, acrylic on cradled birch panel, 6" x 6"
$114 (includes shipping and handling) (SOLD)
The comments I get on this painting are "does that barn really look like that?" Yes, it does, only I've added my colors. I was driving down a country road one day and spied it sitting behind a house. It was your usual barn gray, but the more I looked at it, the more it looked back at me. I decided I couldn't pass this one by.

High Plains Barn

High Plains Barn, acrylic on cradled gessobord, 6" x 6"
$114 (includes shipping and handling) (SOLD)

I'm heading to a little town this weekend in the northwestern part of the state (cattle country) to participate in an art show. This is my second year, and I must say, it is great fun. Thousands of people converge on this little western town to take part in the rodeo and all of the other events taking place. It's also a time of family reunions for people who were raised in this area. There is lots of good music, good home cooking, and friendly people. There are many of these little open-sided barns in that part of the state.

The Studio

My friend, Yvonne, who is a wonderful artist, built a new studio several years ago, but her old studio still stands. I painted her old studio and brightened it up a bit. I think it's destined to become a storage shed in the future.

Relief At Last!

Blue Vintage Pump, acrylic on cradled birch panel, 4" x 6"

Our temperatures have plummeted from day after day of 107-110 degrees to a wonderful 77 degrees today-with plenty of much needed rain.  I posted the vintage pump because it is the color of the sky after the storm has passed.

Green is Good

I don't usually post more than once a day, but I thought that since everything here is so parched, that green would be good
.

Lindsey Street Barns

Lindsey Street Barn Series - Sold

This is a small painting of a barn near our property. I did a series of these and have sold all of them except one or two (which I will post later). The land the barn is on is for sale and is adjacent to a posh subdivision, so I don't think it will survive much longer.

Neighborhood visitor

This fellow, or gal,  has been hanging around our neighborhood for the last few days. We're not far from a small lake that still has water in it, so I guess he's looking for food and water since many of our small ponds and lakes are drying up because of the drought. I was lucky to photograph him/her sitting on my neighbor's roof.

Parched Ground

Sold
Eventhough, this littlel painting is sold, I thought it a good representation of the state of the weather in our part of the country. It is difficult keeping everything green against day after day 100+ degree weather.

Meadow Barn

Meadow Barn, acrylic on cradled birch panel, 12" x 12"

We had a brief break in the weather Sunday night--rain! Since I hadn't seen or heard the rain in such a long time, I stood on my back patio breathing in its fresh "meadowy" smell. (Please email  me for purchasing information.)

Sunbathing, acrylic on cradled birch panel, 6" x 6"

Since we are in our thirty-something day of plus 100 temperatures, I thought this piece would be appropriate. This painting is for sale; email me for purchasing information.

House with Blue Trim

House with Blue Trim, acrylic on cradled birch panel, 12" x 12"
At one time I think this was the local White Castle restaurant (for those of you old enough to remember). Since that time it has been many things. Now, it sits abandoned and boarded up on a busy street in town.

Paintings 1 & 2

I came across this small grain storage unit in a field west of where I currently live. I grew up in a part of the country that boasted large tall silos, so this little one caught my attention. It is manufactured under the name of Sioux, hence the name of the painting.

Another small painting of a storage building. I like to leave the doors open just a little for a hint of mystery.
